[OT] Go Me! 1000 Post-A-Roonies!

It promotes community unity I believe.
I'm going to disagree. IME all it does it promote senselss posting to raise post count. The fact that it hasn't run rampant over ENWorld as of yet is both the eighth modern wonder and a testament to how much of a community we really are, in that post count doesn't matter. If I had my way (which I never will :)) I'd get rid of post count altogether, since it serves absolutely no purpose, especially in a community such as ours, where time on the boards doesn't matter and intelligent commentary does.

It's nice to see a post in one of these ever more common threads (which begin as one failrly innocuous subject, but soon debates the necessaity of the subject) that shows no particular cynicism, or great ire. For that matter, time on the boards is not really measurable by postcount, as many of us post only when someting really grabs our attention, and has not already been covered by one of the more prolific posters. Mind you, this does not apply to me, as most of my posts are quite random.

Anyway, congrats on the 100th post, Mr. Gable. Keep 'em coming.

Ya, I'm not a big fan of posted postcount either, but it actually does serve a purpose. It informs people on participation of the member od the community.

Now I'll congradulate you, since we are in the right forum.
My thoughts exactly! While I've always been under the impression that "Postcount Means Northing", and I wouldn't want to see posting for posting sake, Congrat's on the milestone.

Silvermoon- your congrats sound blatantly self-interested, since you're so close to 1000 yourself. ;)

Holy Bovine - I wouldn't think that a post like this should be reported - the mods know this practice of congratulating yourself on something as useless as postcount is going on, they don't need me to bother them with something as small beans as this.

Crothian - I purposely only posted right after someone else did - if the thread was near the bottom of the first page, I wouldn't have replied.

Of course, if I posted 3 times for every thread I had any input to, my post count might be closer to yours... ;)

And I contend that doesn't matter. Within a month of reading a forum, you can pretty well tell who are the frequent contributers. And even so, it doesn't matter if it's someone's first post or their millionth - as long as it's intelligent contribution. I think we can both agree on those points at least.

I don't mean this to sound like an attack on you or any of the other big posters. Rather, it's an attack on post count. I've seen way too many boards where post count contributes to negativity in various forms, and as I said before, I'm simply amazed it hasn't happened here yet. A solid testament to the community we have.

Woot! I may catch Crothian in like...a century or so.
Cheer for the milestone!

As far as catching Crothian, the man post and post and post, he would have to give up the board for anyone to catch him! :)
