[OT] help with Aquarium

First Post
I have a 150-gallon aquarium and wanted to spray paint the back glass panel. The problem is, there are lime/ hard water deposits on the class. I have tried CLR and Tilex and a razor blade. I have removed most of it, but can’t get the last of the stain removed. Any suggestions?

Don't go the acid route - obviously you do not want to do anything to weaken the glass - and the acid will end up frosting the glass anyway.

How bad are the stains? I ask because painting over them should accomplish what you are after.

Other than that the only thing I can suggest is more CLR and more elbow grease.... sorry but anytime you deal with a fish tank the ability to use some of the harsher chemicals is limited due to fish and invertebrates extreme sensativity to them.

The issue (I hope) is that the stains are on the outside of the tank.

If they are on the inside - you need to be especially carefull about what chemicals you use - (there is some leaway here - depending on the tank) but in general, you really do not want to use anything other than water and elbow grease on the inside of a tank.

Second, if the stains are on the inside and you are painting the outside, the combination of the water inside and paint outside should effectively make the stains invisible.

Additionally, while i am fairly knowledgeable about this, I am only one person - I recommend that you ask this question on the board at www.aqualink.com - probably the best souce for aquarium resources on the web.

Or try reefcentral.com, as they have an extensive message-board over there. Me, I just let the back glass get slimed over, in most of my tanks. Liverock hides most of it, anyway.

I suspect that this is likely a fresh water tank - but I agree, the coraline algea usually covers up pretty much anything....

I placed coralline algoids in my undersea game...though the PCs have yet to encounter one ;)
