I used to feel that way. I am a nurse and used to work in a large ER. We had an old fella of 102 years come in, of course he was dying. Large tumor had caused an abdominal bleed and he could not survive surgery to fix it. We stuck him in a room and checked up on him now and then until we could get a room on the floor for him. I peeked in on him once. He seemed lonely so I sat down for a minute. He asked if I was busy (I think I was sweating). I replied of course, RN in an ED. What else could I be. I basically explained that I was always busy, just idle chitchat. Then I asked if it ever slowed down? He kinda laughed but said: "If the first 20 years take up this much time" (see spacing below for his hand gestures). |_______________________________| "The next 20 go by this fast" |__________________| "The next 20 go by this fast" |______| "and the last 40 is all a blur, maybe this fast" |_| Not very encouraging. I think about the old guy everyonce in awhile, when life gets hectic. It makes me spend more time with my kids while they are young. I also don't let things get to me, nearly as much as I used to. I also think about all of the people I have seen die. I don't think one of them expected it. Lots of cliche could follow this. Instead, I will say enjoy life. It is a beautiful thing, even when it is ugly. PS - I guess I didn't say life will be easier. I give shots in the butt, not sunshine :D Forgive me if I waxed philosophical.
