As Scott himself says:

Wizard Magazine Praises PvP

It's a very exciting time for us because Wizard Magazine has printed a 2 page article praising PvP in it's latest issue (#133)!

For those of you out of the loop, Wizard is the most popular magazine dedicated to comic books. Although 90% of it's pages are dedicated to the big four comic companies, and is considered a mainstream publication, Wizard runs a monthly feature called "Secret Stash" that highlights independent and alternative comic gems. This month, PvP is the subject of the "Secret Stash" article.

Depending on which circle you're standing in, opinions regarding Wizard are varied and strong. Some consider it the greatest comics magazine ever, others consider it a corporate rag and a symbol of selling out. Bottom line: getting noticed by Wizard is a big deal for comic creators.

PvP got noticed due to the controversial Graphamaximo storyline, specifically the May 30th strip which mentioned Wizard Magazine by name. The strip made it into the mailbox of the Wizard employees, specifically staff writer Casey Seijas (who was mentioned by name in the strip).

Life imitated art, when Casey emailed me and requested to print the May 30th strip in an upcoming issue of Wizard. I mailed Casey issues 1-5 of the comic and after reading them, he decided to write a 2 page article instead. I was floored.

But not as floored as I was yesterday, upon reading the article. Wizard and Casey were more than kind in regards to PvP and my work. It's a good thing that I didn't need to go out again that day, because my head would not have fit through the door. Here's a taste of the article:

"If there's a dictionary devoted to alternative comics, under the definition for 'testicular fortitude,' you'll find a picture of Scott Kurtz."

"...it wasn't until Kurtz sent me PvP#1-#5 that I realized that, behind the acid-tongued online criticism, lies a remarkable talent and clever series."

"PvP is the closest an independent comic can get to the perfect satire."

Can you believe that???

I mean, holy CRAP! WIZARD FREAKING MAGAZINE! Can you believe they give independent titles two page spreads like that? They could have sold that space to Marvel for a crapload of cash. So many people read that magazine. Big deal. REALLY big deal. Exciting times.

Okay, I'm going to try to calm down now. I'm going to bury myself in work, and then tonight we CELEBRATE!

Go pick up issue #133 of Wizard Magazine.

How cool is that? :) Well done Scott, a well deserved accolade.

EDIT: Forgot to post a link to PvP :o So here you go: PvP, a great web comic.
