[OT] 'Medal of Honor: Frontline' and today's D-Day Anniversary

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp On Monday I got Medal of Honor: Frontline for my Playstation 2 - although I've only had a bit of time to play it so far (because of work and World Cup watching), the part I did play (the Normandy Invasion landing and a bit afterward) was pretty intense! :)

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Strangely, when I bought the game, I had forgotten that later in the week (today, to be exact) would be the 58-year anniversary of D-Day... and playing through that invasion, watching many of those soldiers get blown away up-close and realizing that this had actually happened, I am now sad. :(

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Has anyone else here played this game (or any of the other games in the series)? Although it seems like a great game so far, should I continue playing it despite the sadness it invoked? :(

P.S. = Should I also get Medal of Honor: Allied Assault for the PC (and/or Return to Castle Wolfenstein, for that matter?)?

If your going to feel sorry for soldiers dont forget to play the German Side as well to be just to all involved.

I myself wouldnt be too worried... the fact that you even thought about how nasty it was and felt a little bit of the terror should be "respect" enough for those who were in the real stuff.

I believe MoH:AA is fairly close to Frontline, but Frontline is actually better. So does it warrant a $50? I don't think so. As far as, Wolfenstein...I didn't like it. There was just something about it that wasn't that great, there's suppose to be a few WW2 games coming out soon (there's one like Operation Flashpoint coming out) and NWN of course :)

Ironically enough, I myself rented the game yesterday (June 6) not even realizing that it was the D-Day anniversary. I've gotta say, the Normandy Beach level in that game is brutal, but one of the most immersive gameplay experiences I've ever had. As odd as it sounds, that level makes you feel like you're there... I could almost smell the salt water and feel the German bullets wizzing past. I can honestly say I've never been so happy to dive into a crater on the beach in my life.

Unfortnately, the game gets a bit less interesting after that initial level, IMO. Rather than putting you in the middle of any more actual battles, they pull the whole "you're on a secret mission" trick, and the rest of the levels seem to be either solitary, or with a partner who can't shoot for beans that you have to protect.

The game's sounds are incredible though, easily some of the best I've heard in a game. The models and particle effects are very impressive too. Overall, I'd rate the game a 9/10.

Just my two coppers. :)

D-Day was a mistake! Roosevelt should have listened to Churchill, who proposed a main invasion on Balkans. It could have stopped Soviets from gaining control over Middle Europe, including Poland, my country! Actually, Soviets might have controlled most of Germany if it wasn`t for the fact that AK, an underground army loyal to the legal Polish goverment in London and main force of resistance in Poland, organized an uprising in Warsaw, Polish capital. Since Stalin didn`t want to support AK, he ordered his forces to stop the advance for 2 months, until Germans have almost completely anhilated the city, despite the heroic efforts of its inhabitants.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Thanks everyone. I'm not so sad now (although I still feel for the brave soldiers who died on D-Day). :)

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp It also seems like the Game of the Year edition of Return to Castle Wolfenstein will be in stores by the end of this week.
