(OT, Meta (?) ) My regrets - I could not make Gen Con

I am sorry, everyone.
I could not come to Gen Con.

I had hoped to meet everyone at the ENNies, and meet and have a good long chat with the ENWorld folks, and meet my friends here on the board at Gen Con.
However, I was ill, and when one is ill one's reflexes and driving skills are not up to par.

Driving through the 120 mile Chicago Traffic Zone is no joke, even when you are at your best, and your reflexes are top notch.
I just could not make it. That is, I could not make it and expect to return home ... alive.

So here I am, stuck at home during yet ... another ... Gen Con.

When they move it to Indianapolis next year, everything will change.
From my area, it's a drive through all rural areas - 300 miles of rural freeway, and not a city to go through the whole way until you reach the suburbs of Indianapolis.
THAT will prove a big plus for Gen Con, for me, and it'll be one heck of a lot easier to get there, from here.

That is not to say I want Gen Con moved - it is, after all, GEN Con (Geneva ... Lake Geneva ... Con.)
However, they are moving it, for good or bad.
In my case, it'll make the drive easier.

I'll get better, be able to get out of the house again, and I'll be at next year's Gen Con.

I'm certain most of you will remember me.
The folk in the IR will remember.
And, after all, who can forget the person who told you all that your players should be given Carte Blanche? :D

Finally, I wish everyone a good time at Gen Con.
All of you have a kick butt time at the Con, run and play in some good games, and have a great ENNies celebration! :)

We had a great time, Edena, and you were very conspicuous in your absense! Truly sorry you couldn't make it. Hope you're feeling better!

Exact opposite situation:

I'm young and healthy, but no car. I really thought I could make it originally, but I have no method of transportation, otherwise I'd be there right now (well not right "now" considering it's 4 AM). It wouldn't have been too hard on me considering that I enjoy road trips. Not to mention I've made two 800 mile trips this summer to Minnesota, so I don't think the 400 to Gen Con would have bothered me any more than the others.

Eric Noah, if you are at Gen Con (are you, and e-mailing from a computer there?) I hope you are having a blast of a good time.
Thank you for the support - I'll try to make next year's Gen Con.

I hope the ENNies went off well, and I hope everyone who attended had fun!

And Creamsteak, I am sorry you could not make Gen Con.
I understand what it is like to not have a vehicle ... I must wonder if the automakers appreciate just how MUCH vehicles cost nowadays??

Creamsteak, I hear you are running a great Rokugan IR.
I would have expected no less from you, especially with the preparation I saw you doing.
I think highly of you, and I think the others all do as well ... at least, they should think that way!

Eric, Creamsteak, cheers to you both.
Thanks to people like you, I am here on the ENBoards, a place where I have friends and good conversation with intelligent and enlightened people (and, intelligent, enlightened, and occasionally cranky people like Forrester :) )

Yours Sincerely

Ah well, Edena. I didn't get to go either. But I'll be there next year, possibly with some members of my gaming group.

So we'll all drink beer in Indy in 12 months time!
