I think this story might be of some general interest to the people on these boards:
Last night the student organization on my campus featured Shawn Carlin, nephew of the great George Carlin, to do a psuedo gameshow with the chance to win some money. Contestants were picked by various methods: best name, point at a random name and take that person, etc. When it came time to take the last contestant Carlin asked for the biggest nerd who could evidence their nerditude. He suggested that anybody who had a Magic: The Gathering card in their wallet would get it, and a suprising number of the students pulled out their wallets (thats what you get at a Tech school), but nobody had one. At this point I realized that I did have my RPGA membership card in my wallet, so I pulled it out and held it up for all to see, proclaiming my level of nerdiness to everybody. Needless to say, I easily qualified as the most nerdy (though I did here several people in the audience grumbling that they left their RPGA cards at home). I went on to beat the other competitors and get a chance to grab $5 bills off of a rotating christmas tree for 20 seconds while wearing rather large gloves. I did rather poorly at pulling money off, (#$^%^*%^# Gloves!) but still ended up with $35 when the 20 seconds ended. So, in a way, my RPGA membership, which I got for free, won me $35.
And, if anybody else has Shawn Carlin and the "Money Tree Show" coming to their campus, make sure to take your RPGA card.
