My favorite poem is: Song ["When I am dead"] by Christina Rossetti When I am dead, my dearest, Sing no sad songs for me; Plant thou no roses at my head, Nor shady cypress tree. Be the green grass above me With showers and dewdrops wet; And if thou wilt, remember, And if thou wilt, forget. I shall not see the shadows, I shall not feel the rain; I shall not hear the nightingale Sing on as if in pain. And dreaming through the twilight That doth not rise nor set, Haply I may remember, And haply may forget. Note: I first heard this on an old 33 vinyl record album with Jonathan Frid & David Shelby doing poems to music from "Dark Shadows." Jonathan Frid's version still sends shivers through my spine. My second favorite is: Our revels now are ended by William Shakespeare Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Ye all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. Note: Jonathan Frid also recited this poem on the same album as "Song" :) Other favorite poems include...well, you just have to visit my site for them ;)
