Damn double damn. Checking the boards one last time before I leave on vacation and just found out this news here. Big fans of both men. I had a feeling that Johnny's time was coming but John Ritter's death is a complete shock. No less a tragedy for both. :( :(

When I read Cash had been released from the hospital over the weekend, with no details of his condition, I had a bad feeling. Suspected he had gone home to die. His wife passed not too long ago, and I think he lost the will to keep going.

Ritter is a shock. I was finally starting to respect the guy, after Slingblade and some of his more recent stuff.

John Ritter was probably one of the best, if under-appreciated, physical comedians of our time. Purely in terms of acting and comedy, he was good. But at physical comedy, some would argue a dying art, he excelled.

As for Johnny Cash, I would wager that most of today's youth and even people up into their mid to late 30's do not realize just quite how big Johnny Cash really is. He recorded more then 1500 songs which appeared on over 500 albums.

In the fall of 1969, he was considered by many to be the hottest act in the world, even outselling The Beatles. That year, his work accounted for 5 percent of all record sales in the U.S.

The world will miss them both...

This is sad news indeed, but I take solace with one of Johnny Cash's songs...

Daddy Sang Bass

I remember when I was a lad
Times were hard and things were bad
But there's a silver linin' behind every cloud
Just poor people that's all we were
Tryin' to make a livin' out of blackland earth
But we'd get together in a family circle singin' loud ...

CHORUS
Daddy sang bass, Mama sang tenor
Me and little brother would join right in there
Singin' seems to help a troubled soul

One of these days and it won't be long
I'll rejoin them in a song
I'm gonna join the family circle at the throne ...

No, the circle won't be broken
Bye and bye, Lord, bye and bye ...
Daddy'll sing bass, Mama'll sing tenor
Me and little brother will join right in there
In the sky, Lord, in the sky.

Now I remember after work,
Mama would call in all of us
You could hear us singin' for a country mile
Now little brother has done gone on
But I'll rejoin him in a song
We'll be together again up yonder in a little while.

CHORUS
Daddy sang bass, Mama sang tenor
Me and little brother would join right in there
Singin' seems to help a troubled soul

One of these days and it won't be long
I'll rejoin them in a song
I'm gonna join the family circle at the throne ...

No, the circle won't be broken
Bye and bye, Lord, bye and bye ...
Daddy'll sing bass, Mama'll sing tenor
Me and little brother will join right in there
In the sky, Lord, in the sky.
In the sky, Lord, in the sky.

Goodbye Johnny. You've touched many people of all generations with your music and you will be missed, but never forgotten.

Tim
