Wooh, boy. Getting Christmas presents.... I'm not a big fan of commercialized holidays. So I don't like receiving Christmas presents. I DO like giving them, though.... I'm also pretty hard to buy for, because I'm an impulse buyer. I never know what I want until I see it sitting on the shelf. Anyway, I was out Secret Santa shopping with my best friend: someone I've had a very strong crush on for 15 years, but who has turned down my every request for a date. I've already bought her her Christmas present (as I said, I like giving presents). Out of the blue, she asked me what I wanted for Christmas. Well, the first thought that came to mind I had to reject. (Not going to ask for a kiss, as if I'm ever going to get one, it's going to be because she wants to give one, not because I begged for one....) So, I'm stuck with trying to think of things I might want. I have to think of something that doesn't involve violence or magic (she's a serious bible-thumper). I have to think of something that doesn't cost much money (she doesn't make much, and she's now paying off a traffic ticket). I have to think of something that's not too romantic (I've driven her off before by being too impatient; I do NOT want to go through another 18 months of missing her). First thing that sounded doable was asking for a day of her time. Her schedule is very busy, what with church and family and what work she has. Sounded special enough to me, at least. She agreed, but wasn't willing to count that as a Christmas present. (Since it wasn't a Christmas present, I told her we could include her niece and nephews and make a day of it, sometime soon. Thus, I can say that I'm giving a present to her sister and brother-in-law, by taking their kids off their hands for a day and giving them a "together day.") So, I'm now stuck with trying to think of what I'd want as a present. I don't want material items. I'm still in the process of weeding out my less-valued possessions. So finally, I asked for something I've wanted for a long while. I asked her for snow. I haven't seen snow since I was like 13 or 14. (That's something like 18 or more years ago. I know, I'm only about 2 or 3 hours from ski areas. But I hate traveling.) She agreed to that, and to the implicit request that we arrange a road trip to her other sister's place, up in the mountains. So, at the same time as her giving me a Christmas present, I'm also giving a present to her and her other sister's family. Cool, huh?
