[OT, sorta] HTML is back on, now what?

Because of the <> tags on logs from the IRC channel before people's nicknames, they have dissapeared from our posts. Is there a quick fix for this? I know this could go in Meta, but it seems appropriate for here since HTML was turned back on specifically for this Forum and we seem to post a lot of logs due to our nature. Any ideas?

Replace all < with < and all > with >. Those are the codes that HTML uses to display those characters without considering them part of the HTML code. Just use some text editor on the logs to replace the < and the > with < and >.

Code:
didn't solve it. In fact it made it worse as it set the text to all black which is hard to read on these boards, that's simple enough to overcome by picking a color, but the <nickname> is still missing. This was first attempt. Will try more when I am awake. Oh, and a slight tab delimiting problem as well. Isn't that what it's called? Like in a .txt file where it can just go forever right? Haven't attempted Greydoom's idea yet, was hoping for something a little more painless than opening a real Word Processor, but if I have to, I have to. Thanks for the input so far!
