[OT-sorta] IWD2 Announced

Hey, that's pretty good news. I have mixed emotions about the funky 2E/3E/??? mechanics, but Icewind Dale was a fun game. It wasn't exactly deep, but it was fun and was just about the right length for a game of that type. Now, I wonder what else is currently being worked on...

IWD bored me to tears. Hopefully the sequel will be more story-based like BG2. Hack and slash is boring. Hack and slash 2E is even worse. Just my $0.02.

I dont know how much story will be in IWD2 (although IWD1 was okay in my books ;) ) but you wont be able to add any NPC's in this, so i guess its more of the same :)

Although the rules have been overhauled and its a closer hybrid to 3E rules now than 2E...

Just read the PBG info. It does sound like a lot of improvements have been made and I definitely like the new racial options and move to 3E rules. Like I said though, story is a good thing. The intense stories, cool NPCs and character interaction of BG led me to play it 4 times! And BG was a *huge* game. I barely got through IWD once. Oh well, I guess we'll see.

Wait a minute. Wasn't IWD made by Black Isle, an Interplay developer, using BioWare's Infinity engine? Now that BW and Interplay are split, BW's still letting Interplay use their engine? Maybe that was part of the top secret settlement? Of course, the Infinity engine is old hat. It was nice 3 years ago with BG, but with the new engine in NWN coming soon, I suppose they have no need for Infinty anymore. Still, interesting news.

Bioware and Interplay split

Infrogrames is publishing Bioware's NWN now

Black Isle = Interplay (same company)
Black Isle is the developing Co for Interplay

Interplay owns the Infinity Engine (Not the NWNW Engine)

Correct me if im wrong...

Actually Bioware has the copyright to it, check the bottom of an Infinity Engine game box for who has what.

Gamespot has a Q&A with one of the BIS guys here.

This line disturbed me:
"We've tried to throw in as much as we can (we even tried the kitchen sink, but it didn't fit in 640x480)"
I hope this doesn't mean 640x480 will be the only resolution used. 800x600 was used in BG2 and HoW, why drop it now?

p.s. according to this news article from Gamespot Neverwint Nights will be released in the summer.

Actually the Infinity Engine belongs to Bioware.

It's conceivable, that as part of the settlement, Bioware lets BIS use the engine in exchange for Infogrames publishing NWN
