[ot]"The one Ring" on ebay

It's an imitation ring floating all over ebay. My questions are as follows:

Where did this ring come from, and how much is "too much" to spend on a ring that 'looks gold, but isn't'?

here's a common pic of it:

I've seen it sold from $10-$20.

The One Ring

I'm in Australia but I've seen the 'one ring' (gold) advertised for I think about $AU400 (approx. $US220). Don't ask me what carat though... They also had silver versions for I think $AU200. These were being sold new in a reasonably 'upmarket' jewellery store. That's the only place I've seen them.

That particular version of the ring comes off a bookmark you can buy... they go for about a buck ninety or so in stores like Sam Goody, Borders, etc. The bookmarks are ok, but the cool part is the little ornaments secured to them by a cord... the first series only had the One Ring on them, but the newest series has other ones... little tiny versions of the elven cloak-clasp, etc. The ring one is still made though, I believe.

Very cheap quality overall, but they look nice enough hanging on a chain. I know everyone I went to the movie with last year had one hanging around our necks :).

*edit*

For the record, it's also very small. The inner diameter is about the size of a dime... maybe a tad bigger, but not by much. I was almost (but not quite) able to wear it on my pinkey, and my hands are mid-sized for a guy. (Never actualy checked what my ring size was).

It sadly does not resize like the one in the movie did :D

We have one (from the aforementioned bookmark). It fits the ring finger of my oldest child, the Queen of the Room, perfectly.

The kids like to put it on and shout "You can't see me! I'm invisible!" Then they argue about whose turn it is to use the One Ring, and get mad when I tell them that's how Gollum started out.
