[OT] Tropico build strategies?

I'm trying to play this game, but like all sim games, it seems to have the "you have to build this and this and this, and it matters WHERE you build it" kind of game play.

So, I'm wondering if anyone who reads this particular board knows of a good build strategy. I've tried searches on the internet, but they're all "do this and you'll be able to cheat this way." I don't want that. I want to know how to build nice clusters of buildings to get decent villages, tourist resorts, mining towns, farming towns, and so on.

Can anyone help? Or, if you know of a forum (off of EN World) where I could ask, it'd be appreciated. (Again, internet searches keep bringing up cheat and review sites.)
