Message: <blockquote data-quote="WizarDru" data-source="post: 38110" data-attributes="member: 151">Well, I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree.  Having seen the original dub in the theater first, and then on video, I have to say that the original dub of Akira (besides being a really bad rewrite of the material) was far worse than the new dub for the DVD re-release.  Most of my friends agree it's a vast improvement....if for the voice of the Colonel alone.Pioneer does some of the best dubs, such as their Tenchi and Trigun dubs.  I actually prefer the english dub of Big O to the Japanese cast (they remind too much of Cowboy Bebop, since half the cast migrated to it).  The Hakkenden had some nice dub work...too bad the actual material went south halfway through.  The Beserk Dreamcast game had an excellent cast (featuring Michael Bell as Gatsu...which suprised the hell out of me...moreso since he did a fantastic job).   All of Warner's Batman and Superman shows feature great voice acting.The problem is that voice-acting pays diddly-squat, and thus most voice-actors have regular acting gigs.  There are few, if any, professional voice-actors...most actors view it more as slumming, if anything else.Truthfully, I much prefer subtitle Japanese, and always have.  It's only in the last four years that we've seen ANY quality dubs at all.</blockquote>
