Blind Guardian, "And Then There Was Silence..." It's a 13-14 minute song about the Iliad. Oh how I love the Iliad. And oh how I love Blind Guardian. Previous favorites: Almost anything else by Blind Guardian. With the exception of "Black Chamber" I don't think I've heard anything that I don't like by them. Dream Theater, "Change of Seasons" Another long one, 23 minutes, about a guy looking back over his whole life before he dies Hammerfall, "Glory to the Brave" A Viking-esque funeral hymn. Probably still the best metal ballad I've ever heard. Mozart, "Moonlight Sonata" Metallica, "Unforgiven" (that is the king of Metallica songs to me) Iced Earth, "Holy Martyr" Being a Catholic fellow that thinks that Christian music blows and prefers heavy metal songs about satan (based on musical issues, not content) it was nice for a darker band to throw us Christian folks a bone on how to make good music- also see Oh My Jerusalem, Sadly Sings Destiny, and Another Holy War, all by Blind Guardian Iced Earth, the Something Wicked Trilogy I need to run a d20 Modern or Cthulhu style game based on this some time "American Pie" a classic in every way "Yesterday" The Beatles (esp with the Cowboy Bebop music video) For literary crossovers (of which I am fond, since I think art is at its best when it reaches across multiple genre) I like Iron Maiden (Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, Brave New World), Metallica (Call of Cthulhu, The Thing That Should Not Be), Iced Earth (The Dark Saga album, about Spawn), and, not surprisingly, Blind Guardian (Nightfall on Middle Earth, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Soulforged [yes, about Raistlin], all their King Arthur songs [too many to list], etc etc) I guess I went overboard. But there's one more, for pure humor value: Ludicris, "You's a Ho"
