[OT] White Wolf / Camarilla update

First Post
From an email sent out to the general membership of the White Wolf Fan Club:

Good evening,

I wanted to give you an update on the situation with White Wolf.

As of the hearing today:

The judge has granted White Wolf's request that the hearing be
moved to Georgia based on two points: 1) more witnesses are liable to be
called in from Atlanta than Utah, and 2) the Olympics will unfairly delay a
decision in this case.

The judge noted that White Wolf may have merit in their claim that
this organization is bound by the 1994 agreement, in particular with
respect to the name The Camarilla. His logic is based on the fact that 1)
we acknowledge WW's trademark to The Camarilla in most of our
documentation, and 2) as we were moving for a name change, he feels this
also supports our acknowledgement of their claim. As such, the TRO has
been removed as the judge apparently does not feel that WW's movement on a
club called The Camarilla will be detrimental to us for the above reasons.

The Board has discussed the issue and has decided at this time we cannot,
in good conscience, spend any more of the club's money on this
endeavor. We will be approaching White Wolf within the next couple days to
discuss the situation and ascertain where they stand in regards to their
indication that they desired a smooth transition.

We will have more for you as things develop.

Thank you,
Shea

Well, I don'T think any of us who read about this on the boards are surprised at the Judges comment... what is suprising is the backing down of the Camarilla board... like "duh" like they shouldn't have seen this coming and done that from the start?

I'm glad they decided to settle, but its too bad it had to come to this.

However, if I were a club member I'd darn well want to know how much money was spent on legal fees.

The sad thing is that who ended up paying the most, customers of gaming products that had nothing to do with the Vampire line.

Some of my favorite sci fi games come from White Wolf and it seemed that the cut back in their budget for court fees had to come out of the smaller non-WoD game lines since they don't make the numbers WW is used to.

I'm interested, as well, and will be making a point to check out the next annual financial report (they post them to the members-only section of their website).

Especially since the things that my money is supposed to be going for have been so shoddy. The last issue of Requiem was unaccaptably poor in quality and content, and I got my membership card two weeks ago - for a membership I renewed in August.

They are now polling the general membership, asking what changes we feel should be made in the organization, and the club is restructuring - hopefully, we'll see a lot of these long-time problems remedied over the next few months.
