I don't quite believe it. A billion dollars is a fairly big hit even for a TV network, and I doubt it would increase audience that much since numbers in that range are fairly incomprehensible to the average-income man.

Yep, and the fact that Pepsi is taking out insurance against someone winning shows that this is their intent exactly. Otherwise, who would possibly insure them?
 

I'm not sure drinking Pepsi on a regular basis is worth a Billion dollars.

I'm not as cheap as Brittany Spears, and even she supposedly drank Coke while Pepsi's spokesperson.

Au contraire. Why would they bother with insurance if they don't think anyone can win it?

Anything can be insured, even if it was worth more than 1 billion, if the price is right. The WTC was insured, for example.

You usually insure against things that are highly unlikely to happen. If you expect that it is likely you just roll it up into your operating cost. This tells me that the 1 bil prize is an extreme longshot to say the least.
