[OT] Wisdom Teeth

Mine came in fine, but I have weird teeth anyway.

Since my canines are ubersharp and extend about an inch more than the rest of my teeth.

They make me feel so goth.

BUT I ARE PUNK ROCK! :D

I believe if they come in straight, are not bothersome, don't come in and out (that can happen), and there's room for them in your mouth, you don't necessarily have to have them taken out.

Now, the bottom set of mine were coming in sideways, they were coming in and out, I have a rather small mouth that didn't have room for any extra teeth, and they were hurting. The surgeon figured if I was going under anesthesia to get two of them out, he might as well take all four.

And getting them out wasn't that bad. I did it on a Thursday and was back at work on Tuesday. My diet was a little smushy for a while, but that's it. I didn't need an excessive amount of painkillers and I don't have any horrible upchuck stories. As a matter of fact, I was gaming again by Saturday :)

OK, do you ALWAYS have to get teeth pulled when your wisdom teeth come in? Or will they fit normally sometimes?

The problem with wisdom teeth is that even if they come in normal and fine (like mine did), since they're so far back they decay pretty easily. But if they come in normally and you take good care of them, there's no reason why you can't keep them for a while. I didn't have mine out until this year, and I got them about five years ago. Unfortunately they're hard to keep in good condition - even though I brush every day, mine still started to decay. YMMV, of course.

rarely,
the big problem is _space_
usually there is not much space in the mouth so they can give you a smattering of problems
1) the roots can grow in weird shape and create tension and then headache
2) they push on the other teeth and create problems for them

personal experience, I said "ok if they don't give me problem I'll leave them there" bad bad bad idea I regretted it and paid it later

Mine were a bit of an annoyance comming in, but they fit fine and my dentist has said unless they give me problems they can stay in. Guess I'm just a freak. The're a pain to brush, though.
