The final of the 2003 World Cup will be played on Sunday night between Australia and India. Who will win? What do you think? What have you thought of the world cup up until now?

I was wondering when you were going to start this thread :)

As the person who thought it was amusing that a few people tipped India as a team to watch in this Cup, I am very happily eating my words right now. And since I've bet on Australia for the final, I'll be even more happy to lose :D

I still think Australia will win, but won't be surprised if I turn out to be wrong. India looks like they've really got their act together now, and the big change is their fast bowling attack. Srinath, Khan and Nehra are looking really good now, though bowling at Gilchrist and Bevan isn't the same as bowling to Otieno and Tikolo. And since Sachin is in incredible form, it might come down to how he plays Lee. Or whether, and I think this is more likely to be the crux of the Indian innings, Dravid can hold up one end and let the others play around him, esp. if India loses a couple of early wickets. So many possibilities...

As for the Cup as a whole, I don't think it's been a very memorable one. Despite Kenya's excellent work, there really haven't been all that many upsets, and even when they were they usually turned out to be one-sided games. And the boycotts and conceded matches didn't help either.

I'm Back

I still think India will win, although I hope Australia does if that makes sense.

That said and on a different topic, I can't believe that people are criticising Adam Gilchrist for walking. That is the epitome of sportsmanship.

Hopefully Brett Lee will bruise a few more bastmen tomorrow. Good luck to both teams, but my heart is with Oz.

Tell me about it! What Gilchrist did was what all cricketers should do; in fact, I'll go further than that and say all sportsman.

It should be an interesting match. India are undoubtadely batting better, but Brett Lee and Andy Bichel are bowling superbly right now. I can't way to see the Lee vs Tendulkar battle. And becuase the game is being played at a high altitude, watch for some 160km/h plus bullets from Lee.

Although Gilchrist did the right thing...

...the counter to that is that often the Umpires get it wrong and give people out when they're not. Case in point, Bevan, later in the same innings. Certainly Bevan didn't think he'd hit it - I don't think he did, either.

Two umpiring mistakes would have cancelled each other out; instead we were one more wicket down than we should have been because Gilchrist walked.

Cheers!

Interesting thought. Almost makes a case for video re-plays (though that is not a good thing).

What's so great about soccer/football anyway? Not to criticize, I just fail to see the entertaining quality. Perhaps you could 'enlighten' me.
