Other Netherese City-

The Grumpy Celt

I do not have the Netherese boxed set handy, so some one wil have to give me a hand here.

Obviously Shade – a city essentially dedicated to Shar – escaped back before Karsus blew the magic circuit breakers for the planet. This was suggested, if not stated outright, in the boxed set and proved later, starting when the Forgotten Realms were up dated to 3.0.

But doesn’t the original boxed set also suggested, if not outright say, that the city Opus* also escaped? And Opus was supposedly dedicated to Selune.

So, I wonder if we will ever see Opus return.

Or am I off on this?

*Opus makes me think of the penguin from Bloom County.

"It’s widely believed that the city of Opus was spared the destruction of Netheril’s cities by divining the effects of Karsus’s avatar spell and evacuating mere moments before magic failed. The truth behind their salvation was somewhat hazy, however, and other sources stated that the
goddess Selûne personally delivered them from destruction."

So apparently they did escape Netherils fall (some how)

It could make an interest campaign, or even a sizeable official adventure, for them to return as well and to act as a balance to the Shades.

I wonder what they would be like, because the shades are not entirely human any more. Maybe the Opus people would glow.

Hope WotC does something along these lines.

My Idea

The city of Opus was rescued by Selune and transfered to Selunes Home Argentil. The inhabitants elected to remain in Argentil rather than return to Faerun. Over time the Netherese bred with outsiders native to Argentil and their descendants are now a race known as "Children of the Moon" this race is the same as Aasamirs except the Favoured class for "Children of the Moon" is Bard instead of Paladin

If you mean dropping the CIty back into Faerun then personally the answer would be no.

The "A city from Faeruns past returns to the present" plot device is endanger of becoming a cliche, since 3ed weve had Shade enclave and the Deep Imaski I dont think we need a 3rd city.

However that doesnt mean the city cant have an affect. Ie my idea for an Aasamar sub race for Selune, you could also have Netherese Arcanists appear as part of Selunes worshipers etc

I would have Selûne lift the city to the Tears of Selûne orbiting Faerûn, leaving the city there Rock of Bral style, and tie it into the Spelljammer dyamic. Alternatly, I'd leave it in the Tears as a floating city, and get the PCs there through some sort of portal.

Hm...ideas

Its likely that the Ancient Empires source book will detail Opus fate

Well, WotC is probably going to say Opus got blowed up. I mean, it all got to be about the Cool Evil (tm) of Shade, right? Can't have anything challenging that.

phft.
