I thought I would share our campaing setting that we will be starting with 4th ed. I'd like to hear your comments if you have any. IT HAS BEEN 100 YEARS since the Fall of Light, and the world has changed. It was on the Fields of Alannor that the fate of the world was decided, when the young King of Elmeria, mad with grief for his beloved father and enslaved by the hubris of youth, took to the field and challenged the Dark Lord to single combat...a challenge which was answered. The young king rode forth, a figure out of legend clad in the burnished silver armor of his forefathers. In his hand he wielded the Spellblade, a holy relic forged by the greatest of dwarven smiths and bound with spells by the wisest of elven wizards. His foe met his charge, and their first blows shook the very foundations of the earth. The world was hushed as these champions circled each other, weapons shining like murder in the dark afternoon. And suddenly, in a moment of serendipity, the young king found a weakness in his enemy's defenses and struck. His blade drank deep the blood of his foe, and he laughed, for he believed his strike signaled victory. But such was not the case. The Dark Lord grasped the king's wrist, locking the terrible Spellblade in place, and lashed out, cleaving the youth's head from his body. It is said the king died still laughing, that even to this day you can hear his voice carried on the wind. Upon the fall of the king, the forces of light were disheartened, and broke when the armies of darkness charged. They were run down, destroyed almost utterly. After two-dozen years of ceaseless war, the end was finally at hand. And Light had fallen. Since then, Darkness has ruled. The mighty castle of Caer Elmeria, once a beacon of light in times of darkness, has now been corrupted, the new seat of the Dark Lord. From this place of power he has spread his Taint across the land. The beautiful forests of the elves have been burned, and their race all but extinguished. The dwarves, once stalwart allies of all that lived, have sealed themselves away in their ancient city. Mankind, that most hated of the Dark Lord’s enemies, has been subjugated. Its rulers have been deposed and replaced with the lieutenants of the Dark Lord, its temples defiled, its lands destroyed. All live in fear of his malice, and freedom is a word unknown in most parts of the world. All hope is not yet lost, however. Across the land men and women of all races still fight against the yoke of the Dark Lord’s oppression. Will you be one of them?
