My update: It's been a weird batch of months. Back in October, I cut down to 155 lbs, which is about 12% bf for me. I wanted to do an extended bulk and try to gain strength at a quicker clip than I had been. It was working! I had hit a PR on bench of 270 for 4 reps, I was maxing out some of the machines in my gym during my low-rep cycle, and feeling pretty strong! Then I weighed myself and took measurements. I was the heaviest (and frankly fattest) I'd been since before the pandemic. Sure, I was stronger, but I was getting more easily out of breath and didn't like what I saw in the mirror. So, a cut was in order. I wanted to get back between 12-15% and try to stay under 18% after hitting my mark. Around the same time, my son was interested in us getting a family membership to the campus gym as it has more stuff than my regular place. We paused our other membership to use the campus gym, and it's been a nightmare. The parking is often unavailable due to game days, the equipment's worse, it's so crowded that I can only come when the more minimal facilities are available. The first week in, I went to do my heavy bench set, and because I'm not used to the deeper hooks on the one power rack they have for it, I hurt my shoulder. It hasn't been right since. The second week, it was insanely crowded when I went. Later that week, I had the gnarliest cold I've had since COVID. So next week was a wash. A few more weeks of struggle, and the shoulder pain forced me to take a deload week to see what's what. Today, after finding that the closest parking was almost a mile away due to a game, I decided to unpause my other membership. The rest of the family can enjoy the campus gym, but I'll pony up the cash for the next round of my single membership. It was lovely being back after a month or two away. My shoulder still aches, but since my focus is on weight loss, I figure I can do baby weights for lots of reps and just dial in diet and cardio. It's rough being a Man Of A Certain Age. I may start posting my weekly weight check ins and such as an accountability measure. I admire @Scribe's similar posts here.
