Day 3, level 3 With Kamael, Raza, and Solace taking their rest, the last light spell petered out soon after Kamael fell asleep. The young aasimar had diligently cast and re-cast light ad nauseam the last twenty-four hours, but the spell tended to extinguish while he slept. Brinn, Stool, and Jimjar were plunged into darkness. Stool and Jimjar seemed not to mind; their innate ability to maneuver in the dark was a help. For his part, Brinn spent long minutes carefully tuning his ears in lieu of relying on his eyes. He was alert for every drop of condensed water falling from rock, the occasional flutter of something winged flying elsewhere down the tunnel, the scritch-scratching of an errant insect trekking up the passageway wall. Once, during his shift, he thought he heard a stutter step behind the group in the direction they'd already traveled, but as soon as he went rigid with the effort of listening, all sound ceased. He heard nothing else during his watch. During their shift, Turvey nattered at Solace, mainly about her armor. The deep gnome was hard to understand--he had a queer dialect to his Undercommon, and his voice was naturally scratchy, as if he'd drunk too much whiskey and smoked too many cigars. Still, his admiring pawing at her armor was clear enough, as was the light of curiosity in his eager eyes. He admired her stitching, gesticulating to their even minuteness. Solace made out a hesitant query: "Topsy allays 'anted a fancy suit of plate, like some pale-skin from up top. During the last watch, Kago grunted twice but was otherwise silent as a tomb. Still, the orc's quick eyes worked keenly in the dark, and it seemed he took in much that others overlooked. Raza spied him trapping a beetle and unceremoniously popping the unwitting and unlucky insect in his mouth.
