Round 1 Brinn scaled the rock wall to attain the ledge. Kuo-toa 1 was no longer in sight; once he gained the ledge, Brinn spied a fold in the rock with a narrow set of stone steps leading down the backside to the cavern floor. Brinn trounced on the kuo-toa monitor and commenced pummeling it, dealing 9 points of damage with Other Fist and a kick. Brinn tried to toss the monitor to the cavern floor, but failed; the creature dug in its webbed feet and held its ground, against even Brinn's finishing kick. From down below, Solace fired a crossbow bolt at the kuo-toa monitor, but missed. The creature was overwhelmed trying to deal with Brinn and appeared not to have noticed her. She once again pressed herself against the rock and re-attempted to hide. Despite the distraction of the fire and the ensuing chaos, Kamael handily maintained focus on his spell. By his reckoning, the spell would end in another few seconds, but it ought to hold just a bit more. Stomp as he might try, the griffon grease-coated items in the bundle of rags continued burning merrily. Something more would be needed to put out the fire. The kuo-toa monitor dropped its trident at its feet and sealed the webbing of its frog hands around meaty fists. The creature drew itself up to its full height; it stood a good four inches taller than Brinn. With a hiss, the monitor lunged at Brinn, biting him for 6 points of damage. The monitor's teeth were sharp and sank deeply into Brinn's forearm. Shuushar winced. Kago noticed several of the kuo-toa guards beyond Kamael's flame had shifted position; he could no longer see three of them after they darted to the east.
