K'nyr should already be inside the gate, inside the cell. I think you pose a really interesting question about whether the Shove action can be used to "pull" or "spin" a foe. I'm without my PHB today, but this is what the 5e Basic Rules .pdf says about Shove: So, thinking that through, the language says "push [the creature] away from you." The text doesn't explicitly state that the direction the target is pushed need be "away" from the pusher in a forward vector. Other than the title, "Shoving a Creature," and the cultural context we tend to bring when we read the word "shove," there's nothing in the text that alludes to any sort of directional vector at all. All we get is "away from you," and away from you could be forward, but it could also be to the side or even behind you (though the latter is probably the least reasonable of the three interpretations). In fact, the text is silent on the issue of direction. So we can do what we want. I usually opt for what I think is reasonable. Or fun. Oftentimes, fun trumps all. Because this is a game, and not The Law. Going back to K'nyr's position, he's already inside the gate and inside the cell. The gate opens inward, into the cell. I think Brinn could shove K'nyr into BI85, BJ86, or BJ87 (it's a half square, but I'll allow a medium creature to occupy it). Also, note the spiderwebs lining the open chasm on the map. It could be that if Brinn shoved K'nyr forward off the cliff and into the webs, the webs might catch K'nyr (if he were to pushed off the cliff), or he could fall through the webs to the chasm floor 100' below. Or be caught and stung to death by a giant spider. That would be poetic.
