Re: More questions No problem. Well, I have the kind of players that make those kinds of choices based on the "look" and "feel" of their character - not because of some desire to "max out" their character. Ratchis does not use a quarterstaff any more (did he use it in the beginning? I don't remember) - but when he did it was likely because he was a "wilderness" character who would want a readily replacable weapon. As for Beorth, I think his player just liked the image of the fighter of the undead using a staff (blunt weapon is good agains skeletal undead and better than a piercing weapon against corporeal undead (at least by the system used in Aquerra for undead types). Plus, used as a two-handed weapon it has a knockdown die of d10, which means knocking down a medium-sized weapon is more likely - OR - it can be used as a double weapon - (only having a d8 knockdown then) which can be convenient. Does that help? The Witch/Warlock class is a variation of Sorcerer, meant to replace that class in Aquerra. I think part of Jana's "ineffectiveness" has to do with lucky die rolls (or unlucky depending on your POV), as I described earlier. However, in re-working the witch class I plan to make rules allowing them to have a little more say in what spells they gain accees to (their selection is limited since they are basically sorcerers, and have a limited number of spells they can know). In Aquerra, wizards are kind of limited as well - they do no gain access to all zero level spells at first level and starting spells are determined randomly (with a system to insure that they do not end with wholly useless spells to an adventurer). I don't like "articficial" means of gaining more spells - which is to say - until very recently the only way a wizard or witch could learn new spells was by in-game means - as it stands wizards still do not automatically gain new spells to learn every level - instead they must find, trade or purchase them - However, I know allow wizards to gain spells through their own slow careful study (and plan to come up with a similar system for witches. I quote from the Aquerra Player's Guide - Chapter Ten - The Wizard Class Also, check out Jana's stats in the "Out of the Frying Pan" Rogue's Gallery thread.
