Well...I've finished my "Crowning Achievement" or rather, my character Cedric has. Cedric is a High Priest of Boccob. 1 level Wizard, 7 levels Cleric, and now 10 levels Master of True Iron (homebrew Artificer prestige class)...18th Character Level Having completed sufficient experience to achieve the 10th level in the Prestige class, in order to qualify for the title, Master of True Iron and be a lifetime member of this small society, I had to complete a magic item worthy of a Master of True Iron...basically something bordering on Artifact level. I spent almost 10 years game time studying with Ancient Dragons of different colors. Bargaining my skills as an artificer for a chance to learn and study with them. In the end, with their help, I created: The Crown of Dragons - +6 int; +6 wis; +30 Knowledge: Arcana; +30 Spellcraft; Ability to telepathically communicate with all dragons within 1 mile; Will Save DC 30 when first putting on crown or affected by Feeblemind. Languages: Elven, Draconic, Celestial, Infernal, Abyssal, Undercommon, Common. Read Magic and read all languages. 22 int, 19 wis, 17 cha. Detect secret doors (will), find traps (will), intuit direction (10 ranks), sense motive (10 ranks). Claraudience/Clairvoyance (100ft range/1 minute per use) 3/day, Detect Thoughts (100ft range/1 minute per use) 3/day, Telepathy (100ft range) 2/day, True Seeing at will. Special Purpose - Defend servants and interests of Boccob. +2 luck bonus on all saving throws, +2 deflection AC bonus, Spell Resistance 15. Ego: 31 It cost me tons of gold and xp to make, as I'm sure you can imagine. The base abilities I put into it by choice, but the intelligent abilities were rolled randomly, although I do get a small bonus to altering the percentages rolled for intelligent item abilities - as part of the artificer class. I'm very proud of how it turned it, it's the culmination of a few years roleplaying time and considerable effort in and out of game. I'm curious if people think it's over the top though. Too powerful? Would you allow this if someone invested that much time and effort into making it? Keep in mind this is a game of 18th character level characters that are on their way to epic play. I'd be interested in some opinions. Cedric of Boccob Master of True Iron
