Packing for the Under Dark what to take

Going into the Under Dark with a group of 11th level characters, what do you take with you either mundane or magical gear that everyone should have?

Everburning light sources as well as Sun Rods.

Food though we have Create F&W from our cleric.

Fly spells and/or mass fly wand - you will *need* it for caving since there may be drop offs of 300 ft or more, or sheer cliffs to climb to get to the next cave. You probably want to bring rope, harness, etc gear in case you run out of fly spells. Bring a water source. Bring a food source. (Usually a cleric will suffice.)

Bring cold weather gear and wet weather gear if you have to get into an underground river system. Caves are *cold* and if you get wet while in a really cold one you can go hypothermic... bring good warm sleeping bags or something if you can.

Bring some soap and a washcloth. You *will* be dirty and grimy. And you will *not* want to be streaked with dust, gunk, mud, etc if you have to be social with any residents down there. (Also cuts down on infection rates for the inevitable scrapes and bruises ;) )

I would also suggest a wand on infravision instead of everburning torches. The infravision won't call attention to you like the light will.

Most importantly - caves are disorrienting. Bring a map. Bring a compass or *something* magical for guidance. You won't have anythign 'normal' to judge your direction on and you will need that or you'll get lost. And lost = dead.

Seriously:

Scrolls of Mass Heal and Sunburst.

Even if only two of each, they save the party from TPKs... (the Mass Heal did so in my last session)
 

Along the same lines - scroll of teleport. For when you *really* have to get the heck out of Dodge. I hadn't thought to mention that cause my party carries such items at all times.
 



Assuming you'll be underground for a long time, with maybe not always being able to rest well, and also meeting many creatures with resistances to magic etc., bring tons of alchemical goodness: acids, greek fire etc. etc. and naturally healing potions, scrolls etc.

Assuming it may take some time before you meet some place where you can 'cash in' your loot, stuff like bags of holding etc. may also be handy.

If you need to appease the locals, bring gifts. Depending upon your DM / world, find out what manner of goodies are rare and desireable in the underdark, but maybe very common aboveground. Bring tons of it along in your portable hole...
 

The most useful things to bring:
- magic weapons
- a cleric
- a folding boat
- an old friend who got reincarnated as a gold dragon, shapechanged into a rat in your backpack.

The last one came in handy in the Vault of the Drow. :]
