Whew! Gen Con over and done with, and what a show! But time waits for no one, which means it’s time for a new PAIZO NEWS ROUNDUP! [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK] As you have probably come to expect, this week’s news focuses primarily on Starfinder and all the ways you can jump into Paizo’s shiny new role-playing system. It is just as important for you to be able to drop your old favorite characters into the new system as it is to make new characters, so it is no surprise that Paizo is making a point to update the core Pathfinder races and the alignment mechanic to Starfinder and the Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild. Speaking of organized play, Paizo also has streamlined rules for starship combat and starship choices for the Starfinder Society. Finally, Jason Keely gives us a sneak preview of the Starfinder Alien Archive! Even though the Starfinder system has its own list of “core” races, the good folks at Paizo aren’t going to leave the staples behind, and James L. Sutter gives us a brief run-down of the updates facing the six core races from Pathfinder. While most of the ability score adjustments remain the same, each race has adapted differently to the Gap, the span of time and events between the settings of Pathfinder and Starfinder. You can generally expect that the races invested in Golarion as it was (looking at you, elves and dwarves) have a harder time adapting to the changes. The Starfinder Society makes a few tweaks to what players have access to in the name of creating a streamlined experience for all, and for starships that means keeping the number of starship frames available to players limited to two: the Pegasus, a light, fast ship ideal for explorers and investigations, and the Drake, a heavier ship with a multitude of missile bays. The Starfinder Society also keeps a leash on characters flirting with the darker end of the alignment spectrum; no evil characters are allowed, and acts of Infamy directly impact what gear Starfinders have access to. Jason Keely gives us a brief glimpse at the terrible tooth-filled tentacled creatures awaiting brave adventurers amongst the stars. Probably the closest thing Starfinder currently has to a dragon is the horrible triple-jawed rauzhant, a creature that is more claw and fang that wing. The other preview was of a spider-plant hybrid creature called a vracinea that uses glowing blossom lures and paralytic clouds to trap and consume its prey. As an added bonus, it has three mouths! Why does everything in space have multiple mouths? Aaaaaaaand that’s it for this week’s PAIZO NEWS ROUNDUP! Stay tuned for more news on Paizo, Starfinder, and maybe even some Pathfinder! Who knows?
