[QUOTE="steeldragons, post: 6969597, member: 92511"] Given the gross generalities of the existing subclasses, "Devotion"s traditional Lawful Good Guy, the "Ancients" naturey/neutral [good] guy, the "Vengeance"/Avenger presumably Chaotic Good or Lawful Evil guy (and the Oathbreaker for clearly evil and not Lawful, broke his oath n' all), I would expect a few more "sweeping" generalities than specific flavor archetypes or gameplay/video gamey types. Where the Cleric is the class of faith/beliefs -typically in a deity, the Paladin in 5e is set up (more than any edition before) as the class of belief in IDEALS (which might also be expressed in fluff/rp as faith and following of a deity, but needn't be. Devotion, "the Ancients", Vengeance...These are not "things the character does" or "how the character fights." Those will bethe same for all paladins. The channeling, an aura or two, the Oath-specific extra spells, a couple of useful for combat features. It's the *ideals* that make the paladin, not the weapons or armor or fighting style. First thing comes to my mind would be some kind of Neutral/Lawful Neutral leaning [in description and fluff only, of course] "Lawman" type, which I would expect to be Justiciar-like, possibly/probably wrapped up with some PF Inquisitor-y stuff. So, my first call is going to be the Oath of "Justice" or "Truth" or something on those lines. The guy who is all about helping the needy, the meek, the...innocent. No, not the stand up for [and far "above"] to fight for them, as the Devotion pally does, but more "hands on/among the people" sort. Maybe some extra healing, the Tank for Disease Control, the guy who's running the soup kitchen who's going to kick some arse if anyone gets out of line...maybe even wrapped up in some Defendery/Undead Huntery stuff folks are throwing around... facing up to or chasing down the baddies the commoners can't hope to defeat [which I suppose any/all paladins are supposed to be]...heavy focus on protective spells/auras, and [were it up to me] limited to the defense or protection fighting styles only. So, my #2 pick, keeping in the style of "the Ancients," is probably going to be the Oath of "the Innocents." Maybe, just to round it out, something like the Oath of "Defiance" or "Dominance" or something of that sort for a full out Lawful Evil, anti-paladin, out for POWER guy versus the "out for vengeance" or just the "out for self/destruction" of an Oathbreaker. So I'm gonna put my third chip on an Oath of "Defiance" or "Domination" or some such for some "baddy" flavor which they seem to like to throw in the mix. So, there's my thoughts: Oath of Justice Oath of Innocents Oath of Dominance (defying the authority of anyone else in lieu of their own power/ego, rather topical for these end times) [/QUOTE]
