Paranoia/40K mashup.

Hi
I liked the combat system in Paranoia 2nd ed so much I stole it and started building my own system around it.
Now you may ask why wouldnt I just use Paranoia straight up.
Well I did initally.
After I got the Paranoia book I GMed straight away without leaning the rules and it was mentel, fun but mental.
for example in one adventure because one of the player was busy recording somthing on his skybox he missed the mission critical information. he proced to be the next three deaths, and two of the next 4.
now i tried playing straight, but all the guys i played with simply saw "paranoia" and saw "gung ho laser pistol death".
so I tried to disguise that we were playing paranoia
I simply skinned a 40K(tau) theme on top. It worked, in fact the only thing that was an issue was the rapid onset of death during combat.(which in paranoia isnt really an issue)
however it got me thinking. so i modified the combat system to make it less fatal and removed clones.
I increased effects onthe to hit table
Nothing
same as before, effectivly a miss.
stun
same as before. character gets no action next turn.
wound
you take a wound, unlike paranoia players have more wounds.
Mangled
a part of your body becomes severly damaged and almost unusable. once you have taken 8 wound all wounds are upgraded to mangled.
Down
you are down, cannot move, you are in agonising pain.
if all body parts become mangled you are downed
Out
unconsious. bleeding out and dieing
taking a wound when you are down knocks you out.
Dead
Dead.
taking a wound while Out kills you.
Distroyed
As paranoia. no body to recover. most gear damaged.

Wounds are now equal to your endurance.

everything else is reskinned.
There are two problems.
1)I need a name. the game is set on an isolated human poulated tau empire planet.
the last remnents live in mega hive cities surronde by orc and virus infected wastes. the planet is constantly being attacked from dark elder slavers and chaos plots from within. imperium spys and genstealers constantly try to turn the population againt the tau.
the tau visit rarely as the system sits in a deadly nebula, the taus lack of deep warp travel mean they cant leap this barrier andthey can only come when transported by nimisar.
2)I havent tested the new rules to see if 1 character can last a session, much more a compaign. if anyone have paranoia v2 rules i'd be happy tp pop you my modified table to test.

You should grab your friends and run 'em through a couple of games to check survivability. I'm not sure how it would work; Paranoia functions because you get 6 PCs in a game, each identical to the other.

As for a name, I'd probably call it Death From Above. And while the other bastard was looking up to try and get a drop on death, I'd shoot him in the kneecap.

haha like it. the problem is our rp scedule is pretty full atm. so i cant see a slot coming up i can run a session in.

the whole point is to play it a bit more like a classic rpg

You may already know about this, but there was an adventure called "Vulture Warriors from Dimension X Meet Plenty of Cheerful Orks with Plasma Cannons." I can't recall if it was an article in Dragon or White Dwarf OR a published Paranoia module adventure.

Or perhaps a fever dream.

Your idea sounds great. I like mashing up Paranoia with Gamma World (current edition) and Warhammer 40k (Rogue Trader edition) myself.

White Dwarf #112.

It was basically just stats for a Troubleshooter team for the original Rogue Trader, and a small combat scenario. The fluff wasn't bad, but there wasn't much of it.

If I recall properly it was played in a game box turned upside down, then spray painted black, with some items to serve as cover. :)

Back when Citadel (then a separate company from GW) made a line of Paranoia miniatures.

Good times, good times.
