The Two Empires Suoj d'si, suon d'na, sual d'Ka, sumi d'Mi. "All eyes to the Sun, all hands to the Sword, all hearts to the Cause, all minds to the Way" - Imperial motto of Paldo I Rai, Ram, n Roi. "Of Crown, Staff, and King" - Imperial Motto of the Marsein It was said after the Pretender that the armies of Guille Marse and the fallen hero Jon Paldi spread to the four corners of the world. With the knowledge of the Ostari and their dead gods the men brought a hundred thousand men across the Seas. From the temple gardens of Lilion to the molten throne of the Lord of Dragonteeth they brought an Age. The Age brought the end to empires, and as the shattered Osti rebuilt their nation in the aftermath of the Declaration their soldiery built a world - Gar of Legendfall, Great Scribe of the Marsein Imperium. In five hundred years a hundred thousand men formed an empire. It is said there was once a continent in the East, one so large that a man could ride a year and a day on clear roads and not breach the opposing shore. It was a place of great wonder, and the gods walked the earth. The Declaration that caused the Hundred Hands to take ship stands engraved on a stele in the capital of the Marsein Imperium. No man born to the Sword can hold property. It was a declaration by the victor of the Wars of the Pretender, twenty five years of sweat and sword. And it was on that day that the Hundred Hands of the New Imperium, formed only a year hence, began the Sack of Ostar. They marched to the seas, taking all that they would need. Shipwrights, strong hands, herbalists, and smiths found their way to the Hundred, and when the New Imperium sent their lapdogs the men were ready. Twenty five years of battling wizards had hardened them. Men who could see through illusion and stab a sorcerer in the heart, who shrugged off their bolts of flame. Professors of the Faith were put to the sword, their idols given to the Chaplains who had fought in the trenches at Primdeka and commissioned ten thousand to the depths at Seaside. They set sail to the reaches, and men were lost. Still others joined the soldiers, and they carved their way to freedom. But in bringing themselves freedom they created two Empires. The Paldo: The Martyrs of Paldi, the warriors of the Free City, knew that they must separate to hold to oaths sworn by their fathers, and began to make their own way through the worship of their Sun Lord, the child of the two Sisters of Shade and Light. They raised sons and daughters to the Faith, spread their ways, and took to the native climes. While they had killed with their swords and armor that bore the spikes of the Sun they repented the way of the Sword, so that no man could carry a blade to strike another and draw blood. They became warriors of Faith, and their Empire is based on the tenets of the Sun Lord being the True God. They do not prevent worship of other divinities as long as homage is paid to their Lord first, and appropriate tithes are levied. The average citizen of the Paldo Empire would wear loose clothing of simple linen or wool. There is a heavy theme to the Sun in their way of life, and their Brothers (the priests of the faith) and Brother-Protectants (the warriors of the faith). Marsein Imperium The Sons of Guille Marse, the Marsein Imperium is made up of a patriarchy of skilled warriors chosen from the Marsein Hands. Each Hand, a thousand men strong, lives a strict regimented lifestyle in training for the Return, when they will rise up as one and return to the ruins of Ostaria and take what is due. Children, both male and female, are drafted into service of the Marsein Hands for three years of their lives to outposts across the Empire. Any Marsein who is chosen to join the Hands beyond this period will be richly rewarded, though deserters are treated harshly. ---- Figured I would present the two main Empires of the region.
