Many of the unchained rogue rules are presented as options, creating confusion about what the unchained rogue really is. The fighter revision is too late, as in being an all-optional system of fairly high complexity. Too many pages taken by something few tables will even use. These are the best parts of the book. Much of the rest is questionable options rather than revisions. Instead of revising spells and feats that work poorly, we get questionable new ways to handle the action economy. Instead of a good working over of the weakest part of the rules, skills, we get new options for multiclassing. Pathfinder 2.0, with a revision of the basics, this is not. Overall, the book is worth it for the unchained barbarian, monk, and summoner. The unchained rogue is a step in the right direction, but could have used more. The rest of the book is highly questionable. I recommend looking up the unchained classes in an online srd and giving this book a pass.
2 out of 5 rating for Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Pathfinder Unchained The idea of revising the pathfinder rulesset is a controversial one. Paizo finally decided to do it, but much of this book is too little, too late. First the class revisions. The summoner is great, it gives more flavor and corrects a spell list that was a bit too generous. The one problem is that it invalidates many spells from expansions not part of the core. The barbarian is alo great. It simplifies and balances rage while removing the literal sudden death that used to be part of rage. Some rage powers could have used furter revision (beast totem). The unchained monk is much more aggressive and easier to use. The rogue revision is too little, adding combat prowess but not helping the rogue much at all in their key area, skills and talents.
