Rage points

I like the idea of rage points. It adds a new dynamic to the class AND it allows you to be flexible and creative with how you use it.

Yawp!

The player in me is so-so on the idea of rage points. The DM in me doesn't like 'em at all -- too much to keep track of! When I make a barbarian NPC I want something quick, brutal and effective in combat.

Heh, the barbarian is one of the classes that I would leave as-is. The preview looks like a classic case of over-design.

Unsurprisingly (because we talk about this crap all day) I agree with GlassJaw.

The barbarian is commonly held up as one of the better designed classes in the game.

Of course there are all sorts of fun things that Pathfinder-- or any designer-- can do with it. You can do all sorts of fun things with all the classes if you want to roll up your sleeves and go nuts.

But-- especially considering that Pathfinder wants to be backwards-compatible-- this is a classic case of Ain't Broke Don't Fix It.

Interesting...although they are promoting backwards compatibility, they are making an awful lot of fundamental changes to how classes and abilities work.

I can't say that I'm happy with that implementation. If they want to release their own version of the rules ala Arcana Evolved or Iron Heroes, don't promote it as backwards compatible. That's just begging for problems.

On the flip-side of that, if they weren't going for backwards compatibility, then I'm happy with what we've seen so far!

Well if they don't test something, how do they know if the players like it? This isn't the final product, this is merely a test to see what works and what doesn't.

And really, if you're buying a pathfinder compatable module and it has a barbarian in it and you want to use it in your 3.5 game, how difficult is it to look at that stat block and say, "Scratch off the rage points and add in Rage 2/day"? Other then that, what's the difference? They said they want the differences enough that someone could eye ball it, not be identical.
