Elisa Cameron is dead. At least, that is what she thinks. It's the only explanation. There are a few open questions, however. She still has to sleep, which is odd, considering, that she is dead, and she can be wounded and bleeds like a living person.

She was born in a flash of fire, probably a gunshot, knowing her. She found herself floating somewhere in the woman's restroom at an uptown club called Go Go Go, with no memory and no clothes. After she scared the crap out of the next patron, she discovered, that she had to concentrate to touch anything. It took a while before she learned to control her power of incorporeality, her power to 'ghost'. She learned to fade from vision and to affect the physical world. It takes some concentration to become solid, but she can also affect the physical world while she stays incorporeal, when she concentrates hard enough. When her concentration slips however, she desolidifies. After the first time she fall asleep, she woke up a hundred feet down below the floor. It was like being buried alive. There is one material, she cannot pass through, jade. Ghost discovered this by chance in a chinese import store by chance. She now resides in a crypt on the local cemetery, a quite fitting place for a ghost, with a floor and a large chair made of jade, where she can rest undisturbed.

But Elisa also has another gift. She can jump space by traveling through an alternate dimension, her hell, which exists only in her mind. The time spent in this dimension does not affect the real world, and Elisa can reemerge from that place at a different location, as long as she is very familiar with the place or could see it, when she began to jump. It's quite an unpleasant experience, because this dimension is home of a demon who calls himself Nemo and who only feels deep hatred for her. Normally, it's not dangerous, but Elisa uses this ability only in the most dire circumstances. It's never good to tamper with your inner demons.

She quickly discovered, that there is one thing in the world, which she cannot stand, that is men. When she encountered a man who was bullying around a woman, an irresistible hatred grew within her and she attacked and killed him. This happened quite a few times, while she was on a rampage tour through the local crime scene to uncover the mystery of her own death. It became clear to her, that she would need a purpose in her 'afterlife', if she wouldn't want to go insane, and so she took on the role of a sentinel, trying to protect the weak, those who cannot defend themselves, whenever she can.

The truth, however, is a little different...
Elisa Cameron is not dead!

Elisa was born Elisa Deerlane and adopted together with her sister Margo by Earl Cameron at the age of three. She grew up as Elisa Cameron and has no conscious memory of her real father, who is long dead. Her step-father and her mother were killed later, while someone tried to lock up her past. Elisa was born with the ability to jump space or transport herself instantly from one place on earth to another by entering another dimension and then returning to the real world in a different spot. Time passes differently in this other dimension, and a week or a month spent there amounts to no time in the real world. She wasn't gone at all, Elisa's disappearance from one spot and reappearance elsewhere seem to happen instantaneously. When Elisa was a child, the demon Nemo, whose home her alternate dimension is, was her secret playmate, but over time she rejected his 'love' and it slowly turned into pure hate. His dimension mirrored the emotional change and turned into a literal hell, populated with monsters and demons under Nemo's control.

While she kept her powers secret, eventually they were discovered by a secret all-female paranormal strike force, called the Furies. They recruited Elisa and under the cover of journalism, she was studying journalism at that time, she was using her power to jump space to turn into a formidable operative, until the demon, Cameron Nemo, turned the alternate dimension into her personal hell. She refused to use it since then and a powerful psychic from her team sealed the entrance in her mind. In exchange she had to use an experimental substance called 'The Agent', synthesized from the tendered spirit essence of the dead. This substance gives the user the temporary ability to 'ghost' - walk through walls, float, fly at moderate speeds, become invisible and/or intangible at will. Because of the own superpowers, somehow the ghosting effect was made permanent and further enhanced, allowing her to expand most of these abilities upon others, allowing her to temporarily dematerialize objects and people.

Later she infiltrated the cult of a powerful psychic named Archibald Scythe, but she was no match for the man, who had ultimate control over women via pheromones and psychic abilities. He planted the belief in her mind, that her powers were useless against the substance jade in order to give her a weakness which he could exploit. He used her as a private assassin. Elisa again used her journalism background as a cover. Eventually, things turned out bad and Elisa was to face certain death. Nemo used Elisa's near death to bridge the gap to the real world. His presence broke Elisa's psychic block and she instinctively jumped space to escape, allowing the demon to enter this world, but he was later trapped back into his dimension again.

Elisa, naked and alone, her memories fragmented by numerous overlapping psychic suggestions and commands, disappeared for several weeks, possibly lost in Nemo's dimension. Eventually she was found by the Furies, barely aware of her surroundings and in very poor control of her ghosting abilities. Now of little use to the Furies, once again false memories were implanted, making Elisa believe, that she was murdered by organized crime and setting her loose against the world. Filled with an uncontrollable rage against men, fueled by her clashes with Nemo and Scythe, she rampaged through the night and killed numerous criminals, all male, of course, trying to uncover the mysteries of her death. Unfortunately, she often killed witnesses and therefore any clues before they could talk. She also met Scythe again, together with her sister Margo she fell under his control again, but somehow Margo was able to break free and killed him - and herself - by summoning powerful spirits from her own tears, her very own power she was born with and which noone suspected until then.

Elisa, however, was free again. Over time, she discovered, that this couldn't go on forever, with everything around her dying or being dead, and she started looking for a purpose, a destination. Drawing upon her more likeable qualities and slowly regaining her willpower, she became a sentinel, a protector. This is what she is now, still filled with her irrational hatred, which sometimes gets in the way, she tries to make a difference by granting the weak her protection against those seeking to exploit them.
Note: This character has been built with the original Ghost character from the Dark Horse comic book in mind.
