Has anyone tried this and if so, how was the experience?
I have lost another player who has moved to another geographical location. That makes three in the last year.
All my former players have personal computers. I had thought about running a game over the internet using OpenRPG or something similar. Unfortuately, I am not a very fast typer and the main way to convey information is by text.
I came up with a inspiration but I don't know if it has merit enough to justify the cost.
I have a PC Cam - the small video camera that hooks to a PC and allow one to stream video and sound through the internet.
I thought that it might be possible to do our normal playsession but with the camera on the group and a monitor beside me. Remote players would have a similar hookup so that I can see them and hear them.
Then we conduct the game normally. The remote players can see and hear me (the DM) via the PC Cam setup, and the the rest of our local group can see and hear the remote players.
Is this a good idea? Has anyone tried it at all? Can one get multiple remote camera views?
I need feedback. I have a camera but the others do not and I don't want to encourage them to go the expense of buying a PC Camera if the idea is not going to work or is sub-standard.
