I ran a campaign that featured a rather snobby Male Human Fighter 7 (named Scott, the snobbiest of snobby names, and he of course had a million titles after it), and a rather shady Male Elven Rogue 6 by the name of Faraval, who was, of course, on the run from the law. The two shared a nice, friendly competition between each other. They'd never hesitate to throw a punch, of the flat of a blade at each other (and since this was 2E, I had to create a chart of punch damage based on STR just for these two). But it never got out of hand. Until that fateful day. The party had been captured by a band of particularly malicious wood elves (for example, a party member had the symbol of Tempus emblazoned on his chest as pennace for being ressurected - the wood elves prompted seared it off with hot irons), and were going to be thrown into what they called The Pit. It was a survivor trial, where they had to stay in a 100 yard by 100 yard area full of countless nasties for a night, and if they survived, they could go free. The party was tucked into a tree, hiding from who knows what, when Scott and Faraval went at it again - this time, over strategy. Scott punches Faraval, Faraval falls from the tree, Faraval is eaten. So went the party's only bargaining piece with the elves. In short: It's fun, if handled correctly, but if it gets out of hand, intercede. You could even intercede with an NPC or some such. (Also: Is this Horc - teehee - trying to KILL you, or just rough you up a bit?)
