Back in 2E, I ran a Berserker from the "Viking Handbook" (or whatever it was called). I rolled something along the lines of straight 15s across the board (not quite, but close). First, I said, "That's way too boring." Then I said, "I'm a marginally insane battle nut. I want to be strong, sturdy, and deft." Finally, I proceeded to talk the DM into allowing the Basic D&D method of a 2:1 stat exchange. I ended up with Drott, the Berserker. He had S18(00) D18 C18 I5 W4 Ch13. And, man, if he wasn't just a blast to play. Ten years later, he is still legendary -- more for stupidity than ability, but you take what you get. The night he was created, I was suffering from post-finals sleep deprivation and it was something like 4:00 by the time we started playing. I couldn't even remember my name, let alone my new character's -- and that really cemented the personality. An NPC asked me, "And just who are you?" My response was, "Heh. Me.... [turns to ranger] What my name?" Anyway, I could probably tell way too many stories. I'll relate the one that kinda illustrates just how wrong and stupid he was (both at once, bonus round!). 2E Berserkers gain the ability to shape-shift into a bear at higher levels. Well, the player of the Ranger did something that irritated me at about the same time that he picked up a female bear follower. Well, since I'm sure there is much cringing going on already, I'll just point out that in 2E, Drott's new girlfriend was smarter than he was (Int 6 vs Int 5).
