Peninsula question **spoilers**

Anyone encounter this problem?

I've killed the Gaoler but no mind-thing pops out. (only a sack with a +1 Halberd and piece of darkwood). Consequently, I do not know what to do from here or how to *succeed* in this part of the game.

I have installed the latest patch 1.20(?) and the problem persists.

Hmm, not sure if I'm remembering the right part of the game...

after you kill the jailer, the mind-control then jumps to one of his cronies; after you kill that guy, it does it again. I think there are three guys total you have to kill, and then the brain-creature will come out and attack.

Dunno if the link had this, too, but if you have ranks in perform and a good hide score, you can sneak through the room first and snap the slaves out of it. That gets you a bit more experience for freeing people, and you don't have to fight multiple times.

You can free the slaves no matter what, as long as you have a decent Persuade or Charisma modifier - the DC isn't that high. I did it while running around avoiding the Gaoler, letting my familiar and henchman hold him off.

There IS a bug, IIRC, which prevents the critter from jumping out of the gaoler. Offhand I don't know about it, as it hasn't happened to me, but you could check the official boards. Make sure you're updated to the lastest patch (1.21). I
think, though I'm not certain, that you may have to do the Peninsula again from an earlier save. Again, check the boards, but I'm pretty sure there's nothign else you can do.

Actually, you could just cheat and give yourself the devourer brain and bring it to Aribeth. If that's an option you want to explore, there's plenty of faqs out there on it.

A big Thanks to everyone for responding.

I did end up doing Peninsula again (with a new character) and the critter did jump out as it was supposed to.

And yes, with the earlier character, I did the persuade thing (with my Rogue character) and that tactic worked perfectly only the critter would not jump out. At any rate, I got past this and have just finished the Beggar's Nest.

On another bug issue, AFTER installing the 1.20 patch, I can't help but notice my mouse pointer (hand) "skips" (45 degree down a bit) whenever I click down on a menu item or location. It doesn't seem to have this problem with OBJECTS that highlight when you place your mouse over it (like chests, stacks of books, corpse, etc.).

I'll be installing patch 1.21 right away (hoping this irritant will go away).

Once again, thanks everyone. :)

Actually, it turns out I already have 1.21 installed and it was after 1.21 was installed when I started getting the mouse pointer (hand) problem.

At any rate, it's not stopping my progress in my solo game, I've completed 3 of the 4 districts in chapter 1.

As an aside, my memory is a bit better (only because it is a little fresher), there were 4 or 5 guards the critter jumps into.

The other guards in the area -- if you can walk around and talk to them first and convience them to leave, then they will go. Thus, the intellectual devourer won't be able to jump to them...

long story short, it just gives him less bodies to use if you convience the other guys to leave prior to killing the body it is already in. (One of the commoners or a prisoner or someone you talk to earlier gives this "hint" / advice)

I didn't do that at first but then ended up doing it later while my henchman and summoned animal were hacking away at the boss guy :-) Thus, by the time the boss guy died, there were no alternate bodies/guards for it to jump in to :-)
