My first Con, I had a prepped special Traveller mission, grounded in some house rules that are comparable to the several years later IRIS rules, only a bit more over the top. I ran one session to get in the door half-price... I ran 4 more sessions because the first one had too much fun, and the organizers asked if I felt like a second run. Then 18 people signed up for a 6 seat run... all got the chance. I had 6 seats, but 8 PCs to pick from. I kept it simple, used the DGP task system to keep things moving, and gave them their mission, a few rumors, and sandboxed it for the 3.5 hours left after the briefing. I got second place in the GM rankings... to someone who'd later become a friend, and was also running Traveller. This was 1986. In 1988-1990, I was part of the team putting local cons on at the Uni. I ran one session of Paranoia; 16 skulls from 6p. (Into the Outdoors with Gun and Camera). Don't recall which year; I ran SFB tournies so I was busy most of the con. I've run a bunch of Retail Play modules in the 90's for my FLGS... running in the storefront portion of the store is a very different experience than the back room. You're much more likely to get rude interruptors than in the back room or a con. I've run D&D, STA, Feng Shui 2, WEG Star Wars, FFG Star Wars, MLP:Tails of Equestria, and TOR 1e at local cons since moving to Oregon. The first one after lockdown, I did a demo of Classic Traveller Character Gen and Combat. Marc noted a dozen sales that evening on the white cover consolidated CT Core. I also got them into combat and exploration... but we only had time for some of the demoed adventure. I've often found it easier to run for cooperative strangers than friends. Not quite as fun, but much easier. When I do WEG, I hand out a stack of templates, and let them allocate the 7D of skills as desired. I also ran a bunch of DDAL games, but stopped after season 4, and didn't run Season 4 since we had players wanting non-Ravinloft. My current Wed group is an open table game... but it's pretty full. 7P. I've run a lot at the local store ( their web: Matt's Cavalcade of Comics ) and that's where my Wed group is. Only one qualifies as a stranger, and no much that anymore. Public play has been how I stock my groups since college.
