Perfidious Amazon

First Post
So, my friends and I are having our little gift exchange this coming Friday night. Found out about that on Black Friday evening, and come Monday of last week, I started shopping online. You know, like everyone else.

So, I order a couple of DVDs and a book from Amazon. And a trio of shirts from this nice little history shirt website. And a M:tG Three Kingdoms Portal card of Lu Bu from MTGFanatics. And a copy of SR4 from B&N.com, which surprised the heck out of me that they had it.

So...guess which ones have not arrived, a week and a day after my order?

Yep, the Amazon order hasn't even shipped yet.

Sigh...it's just annoying. Even with free shipping, the typical Amazon order gets to me pretty quickly...often the next day. If the Noble Collection order I placed on Thursday gets here before the Amazon order does, I'm going to go to B&N.com for my book orders.

You should've checked the ordering time. Some Amazon products say that they'll "usually ship" within 24 hours, 1-2 days, or 1-2 weeks.

I ordered some books once, and they said 1-2 weeks, and they came in a little over 2 weeks after.

I've never had any surprises from Amazon, they've always been pretty close to their estimate displayed when I ordered. B&N is Amazon, right? Rather AMazon handles all of B&N mail order business. Kinda like Cingular is SBC.

The only problem I've ever had with Amazon relates to the lack of alternate contact methods. You MUST use email to correspond with them. I moved across town, so needed to change the shipping address on something that took too long to ship out. Since I had just moved, my cable wasn't running yet, no internet, and work blocks my webmail address (I wonder why). There was absolutely no way to contact them without that email box, so they sent the stuff to the old address and it was returned to sender. Two days later everything was worked out, and I didn't have to pay repeat shipping or anything like that, so overall a positive experience...just frustrating.

Given the time of year, I'm not at all surprised, and neither should you be. Imagine, for a moment, exactly how many orders Amazon has been trying to fill since Thanksgiving.

I never order from Amazon unless it says the product "usually ships within 24 hours".

The delayed gratification is, to me, the reason the prices are so much lower at Amazon. If I have to have something today then I go to a physical store and pay full price.

I used to use Amazon a lot, but I think that's going to change. The Italian mail service has decide to "helpfully let us pay VAT and import tax directly to the mailman instead of having to go all the way to customs after receiving the stuff". Which, ahem, translates to "now I have to pay VAT and import tax, which I never paid before". :o

I know, I know, I'm Chaotic Evil. TBH, I didn't even know that I was supposed to pay a tax. I figured that small orders didn't count, or something. Still, buying from Amazon is no longer convenient now. On top of that, now if I'm not home when the package arrives, I have to go to the post office (while before, the mailman would just leave the package at my door).

Actually, B&N.com does not use Amazon, they ahve their own online business division. Borders is the one that uses Amazon.com for their online business (never could figure out how that works since Amazon started as an online bookstore).
