They'd better release a 2D version. I'm hating on the 3D trend, and hearing that the Hobbit is doing principle photography in 3D gives me a sad face.

Olgar, the good thing about modern 3D is that the stereoscopic film isn't color based, so they take the "background" image and use it for the 2D version. There are still a few theaters that can't handle 3D movie and even those that do usually offer the 2D version as well. Little known fact, VR (virtual reality) sickness can affect viewers of 3D movies, so 2D will always be an option for medical purposes if nothing else.
Of course with the higher frames rates it should look stunning either way, kind of like HD for movie theaters.
