I'm surprised by the level of "amazon sellers are screwing over buyers" that is in this thread. If you don't want to pay X for item, don't :D As of 2:30 EST on Dec 17th, amazon listed the following

4th Players Handbook: 18 used copies (from 14.99)
Pathfinder Handbook: 3 used copies (from 44.46)
3.5 Players Handbook: 15 used copies (from 45.00)
3rd Edition Players Handbook: 158 used copies (from 4.50)
2nd Edition Players Handbook: 27 used copies (from 7.48)
1st Edition Players Handbook: 31 used copies (from 8.51)
My Thoughts on price and availability Pathfinder my be an odd case as the book was sold out for some time and the only place to pick it up was the secondary market. If you've got the only copies of an in-demand book, you can name your price :D It is interesting to note how many 3rd edition books that are on the market (more then all of the other used handbooks combined). This, too me, seems like a case where the general gaming community is demonstrating that 3.5 is the desired version of 3rd edition (YMMV). I'm astounded by the cost of the 3.5 PHB. $45 used seems like a lot (especially considering that most of the content is free thanks to the SRD). Though I've spent that kind of money on an oop rpg book (Iron Kingdoms). After seeing that price, I'd be hitting used bookstores before buying it off amazon. The fact that 3.0 is going for a tenth of the price of 3.5 just amazes me. The 1st and 2nd edition books seem reasonably priced to me. $8 (plus shipping) is in line with what I'd pay picking it up at a used bookstore.
