PHB2 Excerpt: Racial Paragon Paths

Its an interesting paragon path; you're definitely hard to take down if you're a human who has taken this path. But what I'm most interested in is the bit about the half-elves not getting racial PPs; they get the Versatile Master feat instead. I wonder how that is going to work?

I can think of a few possibilities:

1. It's something that enhances paragon multiclassing. Maybe they get a specific class feature of the class they paragon multiclassed into.

2. It's something that allows them to swap the encounter, utility or daily power of their paragon path for the encounter, utility or daily power of the human or elf racial paragon paths.

3. Similar to (1), but only if the class that they paragon multiclassed into is the same as the class that they selected their Dilettante power from: they can now use their Dilettante power as an at-will power instead of an encounter power.

However, as with all wild guesses, the most likely answer is:

4. Something else entirely. :p

Choose between Elf and Human racial PP perhaps?

This is more of what I had in mind with all the talk about racial options in the early design discussions on 4e. I love the idea of taking your race to its conclusion, rather than your class. And it seems off to a good start, the human paragon is badass.

I, for one, will probably not be using these racial paths in my game as I like to change the races flavor around a lot.

However, I am looking forward to using these as a design example to make my own and perhaps better cement my custom racial concepts to my players. ie: "For the last time, dwarves in this world aren't heavy drinking, axe wielders! They're solemn devotees of honor and elementalism! Its the difference of Vikings and Samurai."

But that's something they can do anyway. Why would there be a feat?

If you are talking about dual heritage, that covers feats, not paragon paths. Is there somewhere else where it's stated that half-elves can chose human only paragon paths? Because I seem to have missed it, if that is indeed the case.

On the half-elf feat ... perhaps it improves the multiclass feats so that you can powerswap any number of encounter/utility/daily powers (depending on which feats you've taken) instead of only one, allowing you to be truly 50/50 split between classes (or even more fun for a bard). The epic destiny that offers something similar is still different, because it allows options from classes you aren't even part of.
