I hope there are ones for all the PHB I and II and Drow and Genisi, and shadar ki (just since I love them) just lke those...
I really like that they're defining guidelines for backgrounds instead of just listing a gazillion backgrounds.
Me loves backgrounds. In fact, aside from the broken FR backgrounds, I think this is one of the best most recent developments in D&D (regional feats aren't really the same thing IMO).
Providing incentives to create cool characters that aren't expendable is a great idea. In a group I stopped playing with awhile back, they seemed to think it was just fine and dandy to 'reboot' PC's. In other words, a PC dies and they just immediately hop back into the game with exactly the same character just with a slightly altered name.
Talk about video-gamey.
Caring about a character is, IMO, one of the cornerstones of the D&D RP experience.

Devas are looking sweeter and sweeter as time goes on. Perhaps I will actually be excited about a 4e race by the end of March.

What I like is the fact, that a Regional Benefit is one of the options of the character background. This way, power creep is prevented.
What I also hoped for was maybe backgrounds which allowed you to craft something... (If you were a blacksmith, you can forge armor given time and money)

Funny, I thought that was one of the tenets of old school gaming? That characters can die and then get quickly replaced so that the player can get back into the action.
The blackground elements look really intresting. It could be fun to decide your blackground elements by rolling dice!
