Those Deva backgrounds are very, very cool imo.
Providing incentives to create cool characters that aren't expendable is a great idea. In a group I stopped playing with awhile back, they seemed to think it was just fine and dandy to 'reboot' PC's. In other words, a PC dies and they just immediately hop back into the game with exactly the same character just with a slightly altered name.
Talk about video-gamey.
Caring about a character is, IMO, one of the cornerstones of the D&D RP experience.
Funny, I thought that was one of the tenets of old school gaming? That characters can die and then get quickly replaced so that the player can get back into the action.
