D'Karr organizes a monthly 4E gameday event in VA. There's tons of people who show up, and it grows every time he runs it. I run a similar event in Maryland on a weekly basis and it is now growing to the point that we are seating 21 people a week. What started out as a DM and 5 players is now 3 (sometimes 4) DMs and tables stuffed to capacity. I was also part of a similar event meeting in Frederick and that one grew to capacity and beyond (I eventually had to drop out as there were simply too many people! Plus I started off my own campaign on Sundays..) Everyone is having an awesome time (I know I am). It's all anecdotal data, sure. But it's observable and through the roof. I know it's all gloom and doom and hatred on the internet and everyone is wondering why can't it be thus and so. And I don't know. I'm tired of the stupidity and the bile. The arguments are mostly just pointless, and when it comes down to the very angriest people, you scratch the surface and find out many of these guys were just as angry 6 months before the game was out. My new (previously non-gaming) girlfriend likes D&D4. My 10 year old not only plays, but he plays unsupervised by me.. and that was something I never would have imagined a year ago. I've met so many great people through gaming, and we've had such a great time with one another. It's great, the new game is wonderful. PHB2 is awesome, and it's not as scarce as people are making it out to be. It sells out quickly (well, it did at my store) because people are buying it. If you like another version of the game, (or another game) thats great too. Read into this whatever you like, but it won't change a thing. 4E is great, and I refuse to let anyone else's bitterness ruin it for me. I just don't care about anyone else's woes or anger with Wizards. Heck, I can't even get angry about the Orioles anymore.
