Pixie (How to lower the cr without changing the race )

First Post
Ok It's been a while since I've been on the boards.

Where starting a 3.5 game the rules are as follows 20 classes in any combo. With a + 7 cl adjustment gained by using templates or races.
I want to use the Pixie as my champion but I have the problem with It's cl + 4 adjustment . I wanted to go with Mystra's chosen template but that as well is a +4CL adjustment making the champion 28th instead of 27th .
How do I A ( lower the Pixie's Cl adjustment to a 3 Cl without changing the race to drasticaly ) or B ( find a small fey race compatble to the Pixie ):) Any help would be greatly acepted.

How about just using a Grig? They actually get a slightly better AC and have the same bonus feats. Although the loss of permanent greater invisibility hurts, you can make it work at the level you'll be playing at.

Remove flight.

That is worth +1 LA by itself. However, at these levels most of what granted the + to the LA (or even most templates) are no longer worth what they were worth when first received, so it doesn't really matter much.

Be aware that at 20+ level most level appropriate foes likely have See Invisible if not True Seeing, so the pixie's invisibility will not count for much. Nor will flight really, since most of them will be capable of flight on their own or due to a magic item. If you are thinking of a Pixie rogue type character (a lot of people like pixies for that), just recall that Fortified armor is common at that level (thus no sneak attacking) - if it is even needed (undead, constructs, etc do not grant sneak attack).

Having said all that - why in the world are you starting at 20th (27th !! ) level?! You do not really get a feel for the game at that level. If you want more 'power' or options at a lower level, perhaps you could try the True20 idea of one feat per level? Or how about gestaulting two classes? :uhoh:

Maybe its just me, but I've never understood leveling much beyond 15th or 17th, and rarely have I or those I've gamed with leveled beyond 13th or 14th. It just loses a lot of its 'fun' . . . . :)

Arcana Evolved has the faen/sprite race, balanced to work from 1st level, which maintains the fey feel and look of the pixie. I've considered playing it, but haven't yet.

Faen aren't really like pixies, though, except for a few personality quirks maybe. They're more like halflings, though more interesting.

I'd say drop the flight, or the invisibility. Or drop 4 Dex, 2 Int, and 2 Cha, that might be sufficient.

Note that a pixie character has Spell Resistance of 15 + its class levels, so a 20th-level pixie will have SR 35. That's nothing to sneeze at. Even a 27th-level caster with Greater Spell Penetration will fail to affect the pixie 20% of the time, and a 20th-level caster with GSP will fail 50% of the time. It's not as impressive with the +7 level adjustment total that you're going for, but still nice to have.

The prize in this event the one who wins over the others or a few who band together and win . Will be legends and or gods in all our running campagins. So we can refer to them as needed to fill in some parts of the other games we have going .

Which is precisely why "selling back" flight is suspect. Giving that up is less significant to an ECL 27 character.

Why don't you start by stripping the special abilities completely ...

use substitution levels (at 3rd lvl of blah class a pixie character may choose from the fey ability list (made up of the pixie powers) instead of blah classes special ability)

or monster levels to get those back.

Maybe even strip down the stat bonuses (except for size) and make those feats (fey dexterity, fey intelligence etc ...)
