The rule-sets have no soul to them, it's the material put out for them that have the soul. If 2nd-edition had a soul, it would look like dog dung covered in flecks of gold. As long as WotC continues to put out Draconomicon quality books, they'll be getting my money. Heck, they should produce MORE bad books, so I can spread my funds more evenly amongst the 3rd party publishers. ;) That's ridiculous. If you hate everything that WotC puts out, there are literally dozens of 3rd party publishers out there to sate any potential gamer's wishes. Malhavoc, Green Ronin, Privateer Press, Necromancer Games, and Fantasy Flight Games to name a few. Heck, if you hate the rules only approach of WotC, then turn to the 3rd parties who are less driven by the mantra of 'what appeals to everybody equally.' So you could still play D&D and not really support WotC. The glories of the OGL. My hero. :p I got a chance to look at the book today. Gave it a quick perusal and here's my thoughts. It's an interesting book with what looks to be some good flavor and crunch and many, many mineable ideas. However, if you're looking for Core PlaneScape, look away. Probably stay very far away from the book. ;)
