Using the new Spelljammer setting as-is requires jettisoning all of the surprisingly significant number of old monsters that have strong links to the phlogiston or the crystal spheres, plus losing the adventure of having to get to one sphere via another sphere (since all systems are effectively equidistant from each other through the astral). The new Ravenloft setting is essentially a new setting, albeit one that is thematically similar and with strong echoes of the old one. There is still plenty of old Spelljammer and Ravenloft material you could merrily recycle, but to make the new Planescape set compatible with the old setting, you only need to rip out a few pages. (Please do not rip out pages of your books. My eyelid is twitching just thinking about the possibility of a stranger on the Internet doing that.)</blockquote>
